NEW BLACK MEDIA : an exhibition by Ernest Arthur Bryant III that investigates notions of art, labor, and freedom, unveiling images created through a blend of ancient traditions and modern manipulation techniques.
Through deliberate subtraction—excavative-drawing, Bryant questions the essence of media creation and critique within a framework of both erasure and hyper-circulation. By employing sgraffito, Bryant illuminates plaster walls as investigations of ancient myths, histories and the haunting of the contemporary world.
As an artist and professor in New York, Ernest Bryant III is deeply rooted in material exploration, interdisciplinary exploration and pedagogy. His commitment to experimental essays and critical discourse is evident in his role as the founder of "Criticism and Value," a platform for engaging conversations on art and its significance. Bryant's contributions at NYU Gallatin and his residency at Silver Art Projects showcase his dedication to pushing boundaries in the arts and academia.
With a colorful background including MFAs from Yale University and the School of Visual Arts NYC, as well as a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design, Bryant is excited to present NEW BLACK MEDIA to the public.
