RACHEL DOMMInner Glow
October 30 - Novebmer 22, 2020
Opening preview: Friday, October 30, 4-8pm
Essex Flowers is pleased to present Inner Glow, an exhibition of new works on paper by Rachel Domm. The oil pastel paintings on view feature everyday items and domestic scenes charged with bodily references. Tangled strands of pasta, cavernous folds of fabric, come-hither arches and sunken divots all suggest analogous corporeal forms. The pale, luminous colors throughout add a tone of mystery and animism: an eerie purple shadow casts itself over a lonely apartment corner; waves of ramen are backlight by an orange glare that brings unexpected disruptions to its light fleshy tones; a cracker glows from within as if it discovered the latest beauty secret. By lingering on quiet grounded moments, these intimate renderings communicate the need for respite from the dizzying proliferation of products and images constantly vying for our attention.
