Opening Reception: April 20, 6-9pm
Opening Reception: April 20, 6-9pm
Essex Flowers is pleased to present Pleasures, an exhibition of new paintings by Zach Steinman. The opening will be
on April 20th and closing May 21st.
The paintings in this exhibition study the familiar: some wild strawberries growing in June, a branch a bird just flew off of, a cropped portrait of a cow in a field of blooming dandelions. Recognizable to any human of verbal age the paintings are objective, like illustrations in an encyclopedia. The scale is small, and when viewed from afar they become illegible. Carefully rendered, the paintings contain a mix of detachment and intimacy.
The first glance out the window in the morning
The rediscovered old book
Excited faces
Snow, the change of season
The newspaper
The dog
Dialectics
Showering,
Swimming
Old music
Comfortable shoes
Comprehension
New music
Writing,
Planting
Traveling
Singing
Being friendly.
- Pleasures, Bertolt Brecht
