Alternate Realities is an hour-long, single-channel video presented in a theater setting. The program begins with a visual montage composed of a woman’s social media feed and her phone’s personal archive following the loss of her father (Mehra). Then a dancer is glimpsed (Ehrenberg). An artist tones their body, mind, and wardrobe (Mramor). A figure careens into a vast digital realm breaking farther and farther away from their physical self until only memories remain (Birch). The hand of a woman is not her own and there is a probable outcome (McCarthy). While doing renovations, a man steps out for a savory lunch (Petschnig). A woman redecorates with the help of floating objects, gloved hands and Musak (Magrey). Four beings take part in a study of contemporary humankind (Siegel). A woman navigates modern post-apocalyptic romance, exploring the power and pleasure of self-exposure (Cavanaugh). An intrepid creature embarks on a curious journey (Sefcik). Mont Blanc appears on a sunless day while the voice of a woman instructs us on the history of blue (Rasmussen). American history is on parade (Solmi). A meadow unlocks a woman’s erotic potential (Simpson). And finally, in the New England woods, all the dirty laundry is worn at once (Landry).
